A diatribe on capitalization

Sunday, March 20, 2022

I dig this random Twitter account’s tweets along with the fact she is very committed to not using capitalization.

Consider the tweet shown above:
you and me, we get back up.

She could have capitalized the first word, but she did not. I like that.

I stopped with the capitalizing years ago, maybe even before she was born. Lol. The shift key just became senseless and cumbersome to me. There are rare cases where capitalization is required to make whatever you’re writing comprehensible, but those cases are not enough to justify going back to using proper capitalization.

Now at this point you may be wondering why I decided to use capitalization in this blog post if I’m so against it.

Valid point.

And it’s an easy answer: I didn’t use my laptop to write this. I used my phone. On the phone I make use of the technology. Hell, I barely even have to finish writing most of the words on the phone.

The entire reason I abandoned capitalization in the first place was to save time by not having to use the shift key but since phone technology handles it for me I’m not going to now go back and “fix” sentences to NOT start with a capital word just bc I have it out for capitalization.

It comes down to efficiency.

So there you go with all that. The next time you see a blog post where nothing is capitalized you’ll know I used the laptop to write it.

I have an entirely different and extremely deep story I could write about the content of that simple tweet about resilience but I’m saving that for the book.

Happy Sunday and have a great week! 🙏
