The Simpson’s phenomena is just a pinball game to me

Thursday, February 29, 2024

In 1990 (at 24 years old) my favorite pinball game was the shiny new Simpson’s game. I played it for hours at Tilt in Prestonwood Mall (and wherever else I could find it).

Now why I was playing pinball instead of chasing women at that age is anyone’s guess but I think it had mostly to do with my fear of them. lol. I wasn’t nearly as afraid of pinball games as I was of women.

But I digress.

The machine was awesome because of the sound effects more than anything. I can still remember that opening theme when you hit the start button. It’s like it was made for a pinball game bc it starts out slow and immediately speeds up. Which is exactly how pinball action is. I remember timing pulling back to launch the ball with the end of the very beginning of the theme where they go “The Simpsuuuuuns”.

I never really liked the show and if you would have told me back then that it would be the longest running TV show of all time I would have laughed at you.

As a matter of fact, if you would have told me that in 30 years from now people would STILL be watching prime-time cartoons I would have also laughed at you.

But here we are. The more things change…
