Our U-Haul store got robbed!

Friday, January 21, 2022

Yikes! The U-Haul store where I work got robbed last night!

The thief busted out the glass on the front door (shown above) and used a sledge hammer to steal all the cash drawers. Not just the cash. The entire drawer!

At the end of the day all he did was a bit of damage to the building because we don't keep anything of any value in the drawers after we close. Duh! Too bad, ya #dumbcriminal.

I almost didn’t even share this story because as intriguing as the exploits of dumb criminals are to others, they interest me very little. If it's made up (like Reno 911) I find it extremely funny and worth watching, but if it's reality, it just strikes me as sad.

I’m glad I DID decide to write about it, though, because Mr. sad U-Haul thief stole a key I was keeping in one of the cash drawers he made off with. It was just a backup key to a lock I use so all I have to do is get a new lock but I would never have remembered about storing that key there had I not written about this whole stupid event.

I made a note to myself to get a new lock tamale.

You're happy I wrote about it, too, because you're one of those people intrigued by dumb criminal stories. lol. Don’t tell me you’re not.

I'm well aware I'm in the minority in this category.

I know this based on the popularity of the TV show Cops, a show you love and one of the longest running shows in the history of television, currently in it's 33rd season. Bad Boys, indeed!

If you enjoy Cops (and I’m pretty sure you do) I'm not going to hold it against you. Like I said, you're in the vast majority on that one.

I'm the weird one.

You may even like The Simpson's as well, which is another show I can't stand but has been running even LONGER than Cops!

So again. I'm the weird one here, not you. You're fine.

Maybe one day one of your kind will even convince me to join the Simpson's/Cops watching team, But I doubt it. She’d have to be pretty hot and even then I don’t think it’s worth it

Peace!

Who/what turned out the lights?

Sunday, January 2, 2022

Sunlight streams in and illuminates the entire room except for brief moments when a plane flies overhead and blocks it out. It plunges the room into total darkness if only for a split second. In that split second, however, It feels like the electricity went out, which in turn causes a slight internal  panic and the heart to jump a little.

Fortunately the sound jumbo jets make when they fly overhead portends the possible “solar outage” to follow so the aforementioned panic doesn’t occur each and every time.

Have a great week!

Fictional events from my childhood - Volume 1

January 1, 2922

This never happened but I thought it would make a funny story.

One day when I was, let’s say, 15, I got home from football practice (a game I never played in high school)  and my parents asked me how football was going.

I said “the football coach said Too Tall Jones could throw the football further with his PINKY FINGER ALONE than I will ever be able to throw it as long as I live.” 😢

Those weren’t the actual words the coach used but it made dad laugh and mom mad, which is what I was really going for. Or at least what I would have been going for if there was any truth to this story. Which there is not.

Happy New Year!

Ps the link below to NickSilly.com doesn’t work but I haven’t got around to fixing it yet. The phone number works if you wanna call and talk about life. But don’t call between the hours of noon and midnight and also don’t call from 12 am to 12 pm.

2021 - The year I decided to live

December 31, 2021

At the risk of being overly-dramatic, I just wanted to say how thankful and grateful I am that God saw fit to save me instead of letting me die alone in the streets, which is all I wanted to do in early June.

On June 10th I finally stopped trying to control a life that had spun completely out of control and surrendered wholly and sincerely to God.

At that very moment my life took a turn for rhe better and since then for the rest of 2021 I became a new man.

Free from the shackles of addiction, I enter 2022 peaceful, calm, and full of hope. God has given me direction and renewed purpose and that makes me very happy inside.

If you’re reading this and you’re one of the many who helped and supported my comeback these past 6 months you have my undying gratitude.  THANK YOU!

Instead of cursing 2021, be thankful for what you have and look forward to more blessings in 2022.

Godspeed!
😊

Remembering Sandy

December 15, 2021

Ah, I remember it well. That special summer a decade ago. That’s when I met Sandy. We spent the most amazing time together. It was like a scene out of Grease. I was her “Danny”, she was my “Sandy.”  But what I thought may just be a summer fling turned into so much more.

Summer turned to Fall. We were still very much in love. Fall turned to Winter and nothing changed. Still hopelessly head over heals for each other.

Then came the holidays. All dogs love Christmas and Sandy was no exception.  Maybe the only thing Sandy loved more than Christmas was me. So to show her love she embroidered the beautiful blanket shown in the photo above. Most dogs can’t embroider too well (if at all) but that’s where Sandy WAS an exception.

I’ll never forget the amazing times I shared with Sandy the Embroidering Dog.

The other night my friend Tommy B. asked me to read a funny story from the daily journal I’ve been keeping the last 6+ months. So I asked him to pick a page and he thought 69 was funny. It IS funny. 

I didn’t have it with me at the time but I do now so this is for you, Tommy B!

Sunday, August 1, 2021 (Day 52)
========================
My GA sponsor gave me the last ride he will give me to a meeting before he moves back to Louisiana. I pray his move goes well and he’ll remain my sponsor. This was the first GA meeting where I didn’t have to rush back to the 24 to make the mandatory 6 pm meeting. It was nice bc I like hanging around after the meeting and talking to other gamble-heads.

Chore: None! (Phase 2)
Rain in the morning. Mopped out all the trucks. Got a ride to work with Josh. Picked up Tony along the way. He didn’t want a ride. We gave him one anyway.

Tony bought me breakfast again bc I didn’t have cash. I need to buy him breakfast one of these mornings.

Was very nice to be able to rest after work at the 24 instead of having to go to Marie’s. I still needed to do laundry in a bad way so after a nap I loaded my clothes into a bag and biked over to Marie’s.

I noticed that the ride over there is a lot easier than the ride back. It’s because the ride from the 24 to Marie’s is all downhill, while the

Does crypto follow stocks?

December 4, 2021

It feels like Bitcoin (and subsequently all crypto) prices coincide with stock market fluctuations but lag the market by a week or so.

I don’t know if history shows this to be true but here’s my theory on why this makes sense, especially as more and more people buy into crypto and when stocks take a plunge.

When stocks retreat significantly it triggers buy orders when they get down to a certain level. Those orders use cash investors have liquid for just such a scenario. Since that cash needs to be replenished one of the ways to do that is to sell crypto. When investors sell crypto to replenish their cash positions it drives down the price.

A “fun” test of this theory may be to short some crypto after the next stock market tank but obviously that’s a risky proposition. Good luck and Godspeed! Let me know how you do. ✌️
